Club History

The Canopy Club opened its doors in 1998 as the only true concert venue in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois.  Much like the Canopy of the rainforest covers the Earth's most diverse bioregions, the Canopy Club is committed to diversity in the entertainment it provides for it's diverse patron base.  The Canopy Club also strives to foster an environment of activism for positive social and environmental change through hosting various benefits and informational gatherings.

In striving to achieve the highest level of entertainment, the Canopy Club prides itself on being able to offer entertainment for all walks of life.  Whether you like rock, country, hip hop, jazz, funk, indie or anything in between, the Canopy Club has something to offer you.  If you're a fan of live music and entertainment, the Canopy Club is your home in central Illinois!  Come see live music at the Canopy!

Set Ups

The Canopy Club is really three venues in one.  In attempts to make the Canopy Club more accessible to as many artists as possible, the room can be set-up in three different ways listed below.

the void room

Stage Size: 14' wide x 12' deep

Past Performers : Elf Power, Love Drug, Charlie Hunter, Apollo Sunshine, Akron/Family, Dressy Bessy & many more!

In 2005 the Canopy Club's front room was redesigned to better accommodate much of the local and regional live music scene throughout the midwest.  Some would say, it filled a "void" in the Urbana-Champaign live music scene.

the small hall

Capactiy : 450

Stage Size: 16' wide x 12' deep

Past Performers : Mates of State, MC Chris, Murder By Death, Annuals, Cornmeal & many more!

In yet another attempt to make the Canopy Club more obtainable for more artists and events, the Small Hall was created.  Creatively using pipe and drape, the main room becomes more intimate and cozy.

Stage Size: 40' wide x 25' deep

This is the Canopy Club that everyone knows.  The Theater stage has played host to some of the most legendary and talented performances Urbana-Champaign has ever seen and heard.
