That’s right - it’s Winter Break, so us students will be out of town for a full month, and you’ll have Central Illinois’ premier music venue all to yourselves! Oh yeah. And you still feel the need to prove to everyone how smart you are? Then come to Canopy Club tonight at 7pm for Trivia Diner, hosted by Urbana’s finest improv comedy group, Fishing with Dynamite. The sign up for teams actually starts at 6pm, but this will be my first time going, and I like to be fashionably late. But I still promise to dominate everyone at trivia.

Drink specials are the same as the late show, Piano Man (eg. $3 Real Long Islands!) so bring your friends and pregame Piano Man with some long islands and some trivia!

Round 3 of the Fall Semester Showdown!

Come out out for Round 3 of the Fall Semester Showdown tonight at the Canopy Club! Five hot local bands are playing tonight for the low, low price of $7: Worlds First Flying Machine, Zach May and The Maps, Hot Cops, On Again Off Again and Shark Bandit. Give the local music some love tonight!

Round 1 of the Fall Semester Showdown - Ding! Ding! Ding!

And there’s the bell, Empyrean Soul comes out of the corner throwing high hooks of R&B, Soul, and Jazz. Audiac Arrest circling his opponent with jabs of Indie, Rock and Grunge. OH! Arkansas Dogjaw just jumped off the turnbuckle and now we’ve got an old fashioned brawl, with Kilroy et al and Jet W. Lee still yet to face off in our CAGE MATCH!!! OH GOLLY! Somebody just got a PILE DRIVER!

Sorry to get all WWF on you guys there. But you really should be excited about all of the local action going on tonight at Canopy Club. $7 cover gets you a ticket into Round 1 of the Fall Semester Showdown, featuring five local bands (linked above). I’d love to go on a bit more about some of the bands, but it’s Reading Day and I haven’t read shit yet. I think their webpages speak for themselves.

My name is Josh, and I’ll be taking over the Canopy Blog, which apparently makes me “Josh the Intern.” No, I won’t be getting you coffee, but I will be filling you in with an in-depth look at (just about) every event at the Canopy Club! Enough with the introduction - on to tonight’s event!

You may have heard that there’s no classes tomorrow. You may have also heard about Canopy’s weekly Wednesday dance party, Physical Challenge. This week features all three local DJ’s that have performed Wednesday’s at Canopy throughout the semester, CZO, Lucknow, and Famicom. Get out and party tonight, before you get bogged down with finals.

With vodka-Red Bull’s on special, no classes tomorrow, and three great local DJ’s spinning in front of a light show, Physical Challenge at the Canopy Club is the perfect way to dance out the stress before Reading Day!
