Cory Chisel Show Moved
Just letting you all know that the Cory Chisel show has been moved to the Cowboy Monkey tonight. It’s definitely worth the trip, I got my hands on a copy of his new disc, Death Won’t Send a Letter, and let me tell you it’s top notch stuff!
If you wanna stay more on campus, JoBu and Open Mic Night is still going on at the club tonight. $2 U-Call It’s and great music all night!
That Whole Daily Recap Thing Didn’t Work Out…
Yeah so things definitely got a little hectic around here during Pygmalion, didn’t exactly have the time to tell you guys how awesome things were each day. I will just say that Joe Pug, Maserati, The 1900’s, Cameron McGill, The Hood Internet, and RJD2 were all great shows. I just wish that the aftershows didn’t get cut off like they did, but oh well.
This week of great music has already started with Richard Buckner last night. The folk songwriter put on an amazing show! The way he transitioned from song to song was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. If you weren’t one of the 20 or so people there you definitely missed out.
Tomorrow night will see The Rural Alberta Advantage. These guys have been all over the blogs and I just read a full page write-up about them in the new Spin magazine as well. I’ve listened to their new album, “Hometowns”, and I must say that they are definitely worthy of the hype.
That’s all I have for now, check back in as I fill you in on the upcoming Curb Service and Cory Chisel shows!
Halfway Home
Yesterday was another great night at Pygmalion! Santa, Joe Pug, Elsinore, Lucero, and Margot were all great, but I’d have to say the highlight for me was Maserati. I’ve never seen them before and I have to say they were absolutely amazing. Their drummer was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. If you didn’t see the show, you definitely missed out.
Today I’m hoping to see some William Fitzsimmons at Blues BBQ at 12:45, So Many Dynamos at Blues at 10:00, Pet Lions at 11:30 at Red Herring, and some really great acts at Canopy tonight. BLK JKS, Jookabox, Wavves, and Autolux should all be insane. Get out and enjoy some live music!
Pygmalion Night 1
Yesterday was a great kickoff to this year’s Pygmalion. The Polyvinyl Showcase featured some great acts from their label and a couple other great acts in Common Loon and Mount St. Helen’s Vietnam Band. Personal highlights included Bob Nonna playing alongside Owen and Japandroids kickass set. Headlights was a lot of fun, too; they played a lot of new material from the forthcoming album, “Wildlife.”
Things don’t slow down at all today, I’m personally looking forward to Post Historic’s final show at the Red Herring, Bob Nanna at Krannert Art Museum, and a whole bunch of acts at Canopy. You can pretty much park yourself there at 5 and enjoy the rest of the night. Hope to see ya out there!
It’s Almost Here!
We’re just two days away from the biggest music festival of the year here in Champaign, Pygmalion! I’ll find time during the week to let you know who I saw, what I’ve been up to, etc. so make sure to check back often. Today starts the real madness for me, I’ve already been rolling up 1000 shirts, handing out tons of handbills, and later I get to fill up 500 tote bags with goodies for all you festival pass holders! It’s not the most exciting work, but it sure is worth it.
If you didn’t get a pass before they sold out, make sure to get individual tickets to the shows you wanna see, there are still plenty available. That’s all I got for you now, I’ll make sure to let you know how the tote bag stuffing goes.
Who’s Bad?
Tonight’s going to be a blast at the club! Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band is tonight at 9pm. If you haven’t seen them before, they are absolutely spot on. The lead singer looks and sounds just like Michael and the band is extremely talented. Tickets are only $10 and it will totally be worth it. I better see you out there!
Dancin Time!
Come out tonight for Physical Challenge Dance Party at 10pm. I am ashamed to say that I didn’t go to one until last week, and man do I regret that. I had a blast, DJ’s Lucknow and Czo were great and the projector screen behind them really added to the set. And if you think you need to dance to have a good time there you’re seriously mistaken, because I am certainly no dancer myself.
So get out there and enjoy some $1 PBR drafts and Red Bull drink specials, it’s a blast!
You Guys Missed Out!
How could most of you miss out on such an awesome chance to see Spinal Tap on a big screen and enjoy cheap pizza and beer?!? Hopefully I’ll see more of you out there for next Sunday’s Pizza Pitcher and a Movie. A couple of my personal favorites, Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, will be playing followed by Oceans 11. Those are 3 quality movies you should definitely go out and see.
As for tonight, be sure to come out for Trivia Diner at 7pm. It’s loads of fun and tons of prizes are given away each week. Really wanna go see a show this semester but don’t have the cash to pay? Well just be smarter than everyone else and you can win a pair! Piano Man will follow as always. You can’t beat the $3 Long Islands. See ya out there.
