I’m in a Slump
Two weeks in a row now without a round victory at Trivia Diner. I’m really starting to doubt my skills, but I think I might have to do some pop culture studying and get back on track for next Tuesday night.
Just wanted to tell you all about the fun show that will be happening tonight at the club. Sherwood will be playing alongside Take Care and Pompeii Pilot. Sherwood is a lot of fun, I saw them open up for Mae a couple years back at Canopy and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. I highly recommend seeing this one at 7:30 tonight. Take Care is also playing Pygmalion, so go check em out so you can be ready for them again in September. Cya out there!
I Wish I Brought My Camera!
I went out last night to see Dressed to Kill: Tribute to Kiss last night and it was awesome! I would have loved to have took some pictures to show you guys how spot on these guys were. Blood, spitting fire, and fireworks were all present. The songs sounded great, too, so that didn’t hurt. Hopefully they’ll get booked sometime soon for another show.
Tonight’s sure to be great as well as Fishing With Dynamite will be performing alongside a bunch of other sketch comedy groups. Tickets are only $5, get out there!
Boat Loads of Concert Fun
We’ve got a great couple of shows coming up this weekend at the club. Tracey and Trisha, former members of Tall Tale, will be performing alongside Ann Bacon and Lynn O’Brien tonight at 9pm. The show’s only $7 and you can also enjoy all the $3 cranberry and vodkas you want.
If you’re looking to rock a little harder, than Dressed to Kill: A Tribute to Kiss are taking the stage Friday night at 9pm. Cover’s only $8 and it’s sure to be worth it. That’s all I got for now, see you out there!
Sevendust was Loud as Hell!
I’m just now recovering from how loud that Sevendust show was last night, and I was just sitting in the Canopy Club office most of the time! When I was out watching the show, though, it was absolutely insane. The crowd was totally into it and the band really seemed to be having a great time out there. I kind of wish I didn’t have to go on a KFC run for the crew in the middle of the show so I could enjoy it more, but oh well.
We’ve got a couple more rocking shows for you this weekend here at the club. Seven Year Existence will be taking the stage tonight at 9pm. It’s only $6 to get in, so there’s no reason not to check it out. Saturday night will feature Battery: A Tribute to Metallica at 9pm as well. Tickets for that show are only $8 for that show.
That’s all I got for now, keep an eye out for the Pygmalion schedule. It should be coming soon.
Trivia Diner, You Got Me Again
My team came close again, but just couldn’t pull off the victory last night. We did win one round at least, getting us a pair of tickets to a Canopy Club show, so that’s pretty damn sweet I would say. We also had the only perfect 5 for 5 round last night, so take that!
Some more big news came out today about this year’s Pygmalion Music Festival. If you click here or here you can check out the last batch of artists added to the festival. Let me tell you, there are some delightful additions to this year’s lineup! I’m personally excited for So Many Dynamos, let me know who you’re pumped to see.
That’s all for now, hope to see you out dancing tonight at Physical Challenge. DJ Famicon’s gonna be spinning some wonderful beats.
Oh we got both kinds, country AND western!
You gotta come out tomorrow night for this weeks’ Pizza, Pitcher, and a Movie. As always, you can get a large Manolo’s pizza and a pitcher of beer for $10, but I have to say that this is my favorite lineup of movies yet.
To start things off at 6pm, the Adam Sandler, Brendan Fraser, and Steve Buscemi rocking picture Airheads will hit the screen. Watching the Lone Rangers take over a radio station is absolutely hilarious. Afterwards at 8pm Orange County is up. I forgot how many awesome cameos were in this movie; Ben Stiller, Harold Ramis, Chevy Chase, and a host of others all make appearances. Not to mention Jack Black’s character is hilarious.
Finally, it’s time for the main event at 10pm! My favorite movie of all-time, The Blues Brothers, will be on tomorrow night! There are so many great things about this movie that I don’t even know if I want to start naming them right now. Just come out and enjoy it with me, how’s that sound?
Weekend Shows 7/10
We’ve got a couple great nights of local music on tap for ya this weekend. Tonight, you can get a nice preview of what’s in store for the Central Illinois Metalfest when Monstrosity, Torn the Fuck Apart (my favorite band name ever), Leproso and Thrash Zombie all perform. Tickets to what is sure to be an insane show are only $10.
The intensity will be turned down a notch Saturday night as Mhondoro Rhythm Success takes the Canopy stage. Canopy mainstays Zmick will be opening and playing the club for the first time since their set at Summer Camp. Cya out there.
One Question Off!
My team was just one damn question away from winning it all! We at least got to win one round last night, which was a first for me, so at least I got that out of the way. Just watch out next week, I’m calling a victory already.
Just a friendly reminder that Physical Challenge: A Dance Party Getdown is happening tonight and every Wednesday night. Come out and watch DJ Belly spin and enjoy some nice Red Bull drink specials. It’s sure to be a blast!
Back in the Lower 48
Sorry it’s been awhile. I just recently returned from an incredibly long road trip to Alaska and back. My favorite part was seeing some crazy animals on the drive there. Black bears, moose, prairie dogs, and even a llama were all spotted on the drive there. Alaska was a beautiful state, but I will say that if I go again I won’t spend the 130 hours in the car to get there and back.
I came back to Champaign to see some pretty great shows announced at the club. The first one I’m excited to see is Sherwood on July 30th. These guys are a ton of fun live, watching the keyboardist going crazy on stage will be worth the $10 alone. Fans of Motion City Soundtrack need to be at this show.
Also announced were a couple of great shows in October. First up will be folk rockers The Avett Brothers on October 22nd. Don’t be fooled by the folk sound, this is an intense live show. It’s definitely the show I’m looking forward to the most so far this semester.
Later in October (the 29th to be exact) will see Thao with the Get Down Stay Down take the Canopy Club stage. Thao Nguyen’s indie rock act is sure to impress and entertain. Last year’s “We Brave Bee Stings and All” was very well received by the press. Hell, Pitchfork even gave it a great review, so this has got to be a must see show.
That’s all I got for now, but I’m sure I’ll have a ton more great shows to tell you about in the near future. Until then, I’ll see you out at Trivia Diner tonight at 7pm. I’ll be the one winning all the Manolo’s gift certificates.
