The Beat Goes On
After a crazy weekend for everyone here at Summer Camp, live music returns to the Canopy after a little time off with Beat Kitchen tonight. They’ll be joined by Me Him and Charlie Miller and Mind’s Eye. Doors open at 8pm and cover is $7 for the event. See ya out there!
Friday in Review
I started my weekend off with the comedy of Fishing With Dynamite. They had a few old cast members back for some new sketches and played back some of the funnier sketches of the past season. It was a great time and I look forward to seeing what they have up their sleeves for the next school year.
I also had the time to make it out to see Post Historic last night. They added a bassist for the show which made their sound a lot fuller. This is one of the most high energy bands in the area, you’ve been missing out if you haven’t had a chance to see them live.
The weekend’s not even close to over yet here at the club, though. Tonight we’ve got a couple great shows for you to go see. The Greencards will be taking the stage at 6pm followed by a great bunch of local rock acts including Santa, Roses and Sake, and World’s First Flying Machine at 10pm. Check it all out, you won’t be disappointed.
Sunday will bring in Polyvinyl Records act Asobi Seksu. They recently released the album “Hush” this year and it’s definitely one of my favorites of 2009. Tickets are $10 in advance and Sam Lowry will be opening. Check out their video for the song “Me and Mary” below.
Pizza, Pitcher, and a Movie will follow as always at midnight. Come check out the Rocky Horror Picture Show!
We Want the Funk!
Hopefully you got to come out to the club last night to see the legendary George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. I made it out and it did not disappoint. George’s 45 piece band was insane. A man in a diaper, a full pimp suit, and countless other costumes were on display. It was an awesome time.
The good times will continue to roll here this weekend with a great lineup of shows. Starting tonight at 7 you can see Fishing With Dynamite’s last performance of the semester. They’ve been hysterical all year and I’m sure tonight will be no different. After that we have a great night of local music including Post Historic and Sunset Stallion. That show starts at 10 and is $7 at the door.
Saturday night will be fun as well as The Greencards will be at the Canopy at 6pm. Tickets for that show are $10 in advance. I honestly hadn’t listened to them before today, but this is a pretty catchy tune.
The Greencards- The Ghost of Who We Were
Afterwards at 10pm will be another night of local artists. Santa, World’s First Flying Machine, and Empyrean Soul will be opening up for Roses and Sake. Tickets are $7 at the doors as well. See you out there.
AwNaw Hell Naw!
Nappy Roots will be at the Canopy TONIGHT! It’s sure to be an insane show, I know I’m looking forward to it. The Funky Monks, a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band will be opening. Tickets are $20 in advance and the show starts at 10:30pm. Here’s the Nappy Roots’ video for “Aw Naw”, it’s definitely a personal favorite of mine.
Fans of Underpaid Packy should come by the club as well tonight. Their CD release show is happening at 6pm. Come on out, no excuses!
