Weekend Preview
Once again I’m counting Thursday nights as the start of the weekend. Who has stuff to do before noon on Friday?
Come out tonight to check out a great group of hip hop artists on Rhymesayers Entertainment. P.O.S. will be hitting the stage along with SIMS, MICTLAN + LAZERBEAK - HAND OVER FIST and Plain Ole Bill at 9pm. Tickets are $10 for the show, you definitely won’t want to miss it. Here’s the latest video from P.O.S. called “Drumroll” off his recently released album “Never Better.”
We have an absolutely packed schedule for you Friday night as well. Things start off with the always funny Fishing With Dynamite sketch comedy troupe at 7pm. I’m sure it will be hilarious as usual. Trevor Hall then hits the stage for a performance at 10pm. If that’s not enough for you, Elsinore will also be playing with Mazes and Post Historic beginning at midnight. If you’re looking to watch a little piece of history, Mazes has never performed live before. But if their show is half as good as the debut album from these members of The 1900’s, you’re in for a treat.
Saturday night will be great for the bluegrass fans out there as Cornmeal will be playing alongside Canopy favorites Zmick and Neoga Blacksmith. Tickets are $8 in advance for that show. There’s absolutely no excuse to not get out to the club this weekend, for realz.
Trivia Night!!!!!1!!!11!
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I spent mine in Iowa City visiting a friend and let me tell you, Champaign-Urbana is where it’s at. The University of Iowa has nothing on us. Record Collectors is nothing compared to Exile on Main Street and The Canopy Club has a much better live music lineup. We even have a trivia night!
You might be saying, “but Joe, there’s no trivia night at the Canopy Club.” I’d tell you, “hey, take a look at our new Tuesday night lineup on the website.”
That’s right, tonight is the first night of the Canopy Club’s Trivia Diner! Starting at 7pm every Tuesday night, Fishing With Dynamite will host a trivia night complete with great prizes. It’s sure to be a great time. So come out before the Piano Man and enjoy the area’s best Tuesday night entertainment!
And if that isn’t enough fun for ya, you can always just enjoy our $3 Long Islands. See ya out there.
Well that was funny
Fishing With Dynamite again impressed at the Canopy Club this past Friday night. The place was packed and the crowd was loving every skit this sketch comedy group performed. Three ways for Valentine’s Day, lost confessionals from the Joker, and the new kids drink “Corangejuice” were all highlights of this great show. Make sure to come out for their next performance on February 27th, it’s sure to be hilarious.
There’s a great show going on tonight as Clutch will be taking the stage. Red Fang, The Bakerton Group, and Willem Maker will be performing as well. The show starts at 7pm. Make sure to get out there. I would be there in a heartbeat, but I’m feeling a bit under the weather. Let me know what I missed.
Weekend in Review
I’m going to count Thursday night as part of the weekend. Why? Because I’m a college student and I don’t have any responsibilities on Fridays.
Chicago’s Pet Lions and Santa took the void room stage Thursday night. Pet Lions played an infectious batch of indie pop songs. They were extremely catchy and definitely worth checking out if you get a chance. Santa finished up the night with a great set as usual. They debuted a few new songs that really got the crowd going. They’re really starting to cement themselves as one of the better live acts in the area.
Saturday night brought This Must Be the Band: A Tribute to the Talking Heads to the Canopy stage. I was extremely impressed with the entire show. They recreated the film Stop Making Sense for the large crowd for their first set of the night. I’m a casual Talking Heads fan and had honestly never seen the film, but my friends who have seen it said it was spot on. The bassist even donned a wig to make things a bit more legit. After the recreation, they ditched the oversized suit, afro, and wig and played some more Talking Heads requests. It was a great night that capped out a great weekend in music at the Canopy.
Covers, Covers, and More Covers Part 3
I’m going to have to make this brief, we just got over 40,000 Summer Camp post cards that need to be sent out.
Just wanted to finish up my preview of the Tribute bands that will be hitting the Canopy stage this semester. Zoso will be playing some great Led Zeppelin on February 14th. Bring your valentine out to the club to check out the best Zeppelin tribute band you’ll ever hear. Cover is $8 for the night, make sure to check it out.
Coming up in March, we’ll have two more great tribute acts coming through the club. On March 13th, Eclipse will be doing their best tribute of legendary act Pink Floyd. Tickets for the show will be $10 in advance. We also have Hell’s Bells rocking as AC/DC on March 27th. It’s sure to be a damn good time. Tickets for that show are $7 in advance.
That’s all I got for ya now, except for a few videos of these great acts. Check em out.
